I (James Stroud) am putting this on as an encourager of academic freedom and critical thinking; moreover I am also putting this together to help the Ratio Christi Chapter at the UofA and NWACC to get more attention and recognition that this is opened and operating and I highly encourage students to get plugged into this FREE resource and at least meet with chapter director Peter Freund or go to one of their monthly meetings: https://ratiochristi.org/people/peter-freund (email: firstname.lastname@example.org)
***About Jay Seegert - This talk is non-denominational (so please do NOT use that as an excuse for not coming); below is a sample of one of Jay's past talks for your reference. Bottom-line is that he will be discussing what CS Lewis called "Mere Christianity" - in other words the basic principles that Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox and Protestant would agree upon so please make plans to attend and get equipped Christian or non-Christian alike. This is a discussion/open-dialouge so please give up one afternoon or part of an evening to attend one of these events. (more about Jay: http://www.logosresearchassociates.org)
Email me if you have any questions at all and please take advantage of this FREE opportunity to encourage critical thinking and a sharing of worldviews in an open (and friendly) manner.
Christians have the truth so there is nothing to be afraid of but we also cannot bury our heads in the sand. Nearly 2/3 of teens today lose their faith when they go to college simply because they were NOT prepared when they left the house. I am not some crack-pot who thinks the earth if flat; but I have attended the UofA then moved to New York City and finished degrees in philosophy of religion and a Masters in Ancient History and have debated/researched these tough issues/questions across the US as well as in Europe I can assure you that as of 2017 the vast majority of all evidences are on the side of the Christian theist. *Please request to the left a FREE copy of my published works or get it for less than $1.99 at: https://www.amazon.com/Philosophy-History-Naturalism-Religion-ebook/dp/B072N4JGV8/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=
Christianity envelopes the whole person; not just the intellect or faith but the whole person which includes the Arts as well.
I am slightly revamping this site simply because after receiving degrees in philosophy of religion as well as graduate degrees in Ancient History (all in a secular setting) and am currently working within the philosophy of art and will hopefully have a post-postmodern gallery open soon in Northwest Arkansas (see: www.post-postmodern.org); it has become evident that people turn away from Christ due to emotional concerns though they prefer to say it is intellectual ones. And instead of having an apathetic mindset I must encourage you to really think through the seriousness of these issues (more than whatever is the latest popluar/hip movement or protest a president of the day).
The above video shows that without God life is utterly absurd and this is the type of reality that both you and I must come to grips with.
FYI - Once you request your free package, please familarize yourself with the rest of the website.
First - you will find "Faith Under Fire" videos which show quick snipits between a Christian and a non-Christian debating (only about 10-15 minutes in total length) to help you understand the challenges that will be thrown at you and your children in a growingly hostile world. *These videos will introduce you and your students/children to some of the various attacks against Christianity, God and the Bible and show why these attacks are weak and mostly without any warrant at all. (It will also help you better understand the books/videos I will send you in your FREE package).
Secondly - you will find various headings on the tabs to the left such as "Does God Exist", "Philosophy and God", "Evolution and God", etc. that will give you some basic information, videos, etc. to better understand these concepts; as well as being able to articulate them to your students. (Keep in mind that these concepts at a basic level are quite easy to understand so do not worry if there are some areas that you better understand than others and know that I am always only an email away as needed for any help I may offer.)
Thirdly - I have several "Debates/Dialouges" setup simply because this is the "real-world" we live in and we MUST equip our children (and outselves) to better face a hostile world; we have the truth so what do we have to fear? (This coming from someone who has debated many various groups on the topics)
Lastly - I have a few areas for those of you who are wishing for more "academic freedom" within the public sphere for your children. Though public education is becoming increasingly hostile to theism, if we equip our children appropriately as well as debate/reach-out in a loving way to our school officials we may still be able to turn the helm of public educaiton before it finally crashes in a sea of relativism...
“The incredibly counterproductive fads, fashions, and dogmas of American education – from kindergarten to the colleges – have yet to take their full toll, in part because all the standards of earlier times have not yet been completely eroded away. In short, too many American schools are turning out students who are not only intellectually incompetent but also morally confused, emotionally alienated, and socially maladjusted.”
Thomas Sowell, Inside American Education
